Click the picture above to see an entire album of photos from the weekend itself.

This is the first part of two of the Girls Night In podcast’s special Meet-Up releases. We reviewed the movie Mamma Mia! Directed by Phyllida Lloyd. With Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep. The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular ’70s group ABBA. Yes, it’s still in the theater, so yes we shook it up a little and did something we wouldn’t normally do. We met everyone in person, we saw a movie that’s in the theater and then reviewed it on the spot without any reflection what-so-ever. We all had a blast meeting one another and reviewing this movie. Did we enjoy the movie as much as we enjoyed each other’s company though? Listen in and find out!

Next week we’ll get a bit more personal in nature about the meet-up itself. Don’t forget to check back or subscribe to the show. Use the buttons on the right to subscribe!

034 Girls Night In: Chicago Movie Musical Review

07/10/2008

In this episode of Girls Night In we discussed Jaime’s movie pick “Chicago” (2002) staring Renee Zellwegger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah and Richard Gere. This movie is a crime/drama/musical based off of a musical that was based off of a play, loosely based off of real life events.  Did it manage to steal our hearts or did we leave it bleeding in the streets? Did one of the girls happen to take on the roll of the Matron of GNI and perform When You’re Good to Mama or did we all just say “to heck with it” and go scantily clad by performing the Cell Block Tango?

030 Girls Night In: Transformers Movie Review

06/12/2008

In this episode of Girls Night In we discussed Rachel’s movie pick Transformers” (2007) staring Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, and Peter Cullen. This movie is based off the ’80s TV show and Hasbro toys of the same name. Was this popcorn, movie-flick a crowd pleaser or did it fail to transform some of the ladies into robot lovers? Maybe instead they were robotic aliens — but were they Autobots or Decepticons? “No sacrifice, no victory!”

024 Girls Night In: Enchanted Movie Review

05/01/2008

In this weekly edition of Girls Night In we discussed Maggie’s movie pick, Enchanted staring Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Susan Sarandon. You would think that a fairytale brought to life would be every girl’s dream, but was it? Did someone kiss the prince and he turned back into a frog or did we all enjoy the movie, happily ever after? You should know by now that the only way to find out is to listen to the show.

Enchanted Synopsis by Kim
This story brought us into the fantasy land of a quaint common girl. Giselle sang to the animals and with the music she did twirl. A troll happened by threatening her as a snack. Prince Edward had already heard her singing and caught her.. he had a knack. His mother felt threatened, as evil step mothers do in these stories. She needed to fix this so she checked her inventory. A push down the well made fantasy and reality collide, sending her to New York City where there was nowhere for a princess to hide.

She happened upon Morgan followed by Robert her father, a divorce attorney who with her he didn’t want to bother. He was dating Nancy and was soon to propose but then got in some trouble before Giselle could use the curtains for clothes. Robert became enamored and in love they did fall. Edward arrived to rescue his beauty and took her on a date to the King and Queens ball. Poisoned by an apple and saved by a kiss, Giselle then stepped up so that Narcissa no longer would exist.

Edward and Nancy were animated and wed, while Robert and Giselle lived happily ever after, at least that’s what we read.

016 Girls Night In: Sense and Sensibility Movie Review

01/28/2008

Movie Review
In this episode we discussed Rachel’s movie pick Sense and Sensibility (1995 version) starring Emma Thomson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman among others. So, let’s find out what this movie is about:

From imdb Written by Kathy Li

When Mr. Dashwood dies, he must leave the bulk of his estate to the son by his first marriage, which leaves his second wife and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret) in straitened circumstances. They are taken in by a kindly cousin, but their lack of fortune affects the marriageability of both practical Elinor and romantic Marianne. When Elinor forms an attachment for the wealthy Edward Ferrars, his family disapproves and separates them. And though Mrs. Jennings tries to match the worthy (and rich) Colonel Brandon to her, Marianne finds the dashing and fiery Willoughby more to her taste. Both relationships are sorely tried. But this is a romance, and through the hardships and heartbreak, true love and a happy ending will find their way for both the sister who is all sense and the one who is all sensibility.

We had a rather lengthy discussion of this movie but if you wanted find out if that was a good or a bad thing, you’ll have to listen to the show.

What If?
As always, we answered what if questions.
1. What if you knew touching the person you loved, in that romantic way, even once would kill them? Could you live the rest of your life without ever touching or kissing? For the sake of this question there’s no kissing through cling wrap or holding hands through rubber gloves. No touching, at all and no just moving away to not deal with it.
2. Now the shoes on the other foot but the same rules apply. What if you were the one who would be killed by the touch of your love? Could you live your life without it or would you sacrifice the rest of your life for that one sweet kiss?

What’s Coming Up?
Our next show will be on Wednesday, February 6th and it’ll be a discussion episode with Rachel once again in charge. The topic will be video games. Listeners please email or call in just 1 of your favorite video games of all time. I’m talking any kind of video game old or new, big or small, on any platform, PC, console, handheld, or even arcade. As much as we’d like to go on for hours, we just can’t, so this will help keep it more brief. As a final reminder, the next show will be Wednesday, February 6th on TalkShoe at 9pm ET, 8pm CT, 7pm MT or 6pm PT. Call in your favorite video game to 206-203-4308, email us hello@girlsnightinpodcast.com or join us live on TalkShoe!

The What If questions will be:
1. What if you had to design a brand new video game? What would it be like or about?
2. What if you had to pick any TV or movie version of the future to be the actual future. Which would you pick?

The following show will be Jaime’s movie pick on February 20. It is Office Space, so make sure you rent it, buy it or catch it on TV before then so you can give us your review.

013 Girls Night In: National Treasure Review

12/12/2007

We here at the Girls Night In podcast have adopted a family that we will be sponsoring for Christmas. We are donating all of the money that we have generated through TalkShoe to a family that will not be having a very merry Christmas without some help. We would like to invite all of our listeners to help make a merry Christmas for the family we have chosen. The family is headed by a single mom and we want to make sure that Santa visits this house. Please help if you can by clicking on the donate to PayPal button. Any amount will help. We hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Movie Review
In this episode we discussed Maggie’s movie pick National Treasure starring Nicholas Cage, Diane Kruger and Jon Voight.

Written by IMDb Editors

“Benjamin Franklin Gates descends from a family of treasure-seekers who’ve all hunted for the same thing: a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Ben’s close to discovering its whereabouts, as is his competition, but the FBI is also hip to the hunt.”

Now I bet you’re asking yourself if this movie could possibly live up to her last pick, “Wet Hot American Summer”? You’ll just have to listen to find out. As per usual we ordered you to either Buy It, Rent It, Catch It On TV or Skip It.

What If?
1. If you could spend one whole night alone with anyone in history, who would you choose?
2. If you could travel back in time, where would you go?

What’s Coming Up?
Our next episode will be a pre-recorded Holiday special. You can look for that in your pod-catcher on or around December 19.

We will return to our regular live schedule Wednesday, January 9 at 9PM EDT, 8PM CDT, 7PM MDT, 6PM PDT, 4PM Hawaii time. We will be discussing Maggie’s topic of choice, cheating. She wants to know what we and you listeners have cheated at in our lives! And no, cheating at podcast questions do not count. She’d like to hear about one event of cheating from your life while you’ll hear about two from each of the co-hosts. Call in your cheating ways to 206-203-4308, email us hello@girlsnightinpodcast.com or join us live on TalkShoe!

The What If questions will be:
1. What if you could cheat at something and never get caught, what would it be?
2. What if you could cheat at something you do every day, what would it be?

The episode to follow Maggie’s cheating will be a movie review and Rachel will be taking the reins once more. We will be discussing her movie pick Sense and Sensibility. We realize it’s a long time away but January 23 will be here before you know it.

The music played tonight behind our closing segment was found through the PodSafe Music Network. The song is O Holy Night by artist Charlie Crowe.

011 Girls Night In: Little Shop of Horrors Review

11/19/2007

Movie Review
Tonight we finally discussed Kim’s movie pick Little Shop of Horrors (1986 version) staring; Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene and Steve Martin.

In this movie-musical, Rick Moranis plays the geeky character of Seymour Krelborn, who works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. While his boss, Mr. Mushnik bemoans the lack of business, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop — and himself — fame and fortune. He purchases a strange plant from an oriental street vendor, naming the plant after his girlfriend Audrey. Gradually, Seymour learns to his horror that “Audrey II” craves blood and flesh. With each of Audrey II’s “FEEED MEEE”s, Seymour must scare up human food to satisfy the plant’s appetite.

We had a good discussion where some of us were pansies and others made fun of the pansies, but what else is new? As per usual we rated it using our Buy It, Rent It, Catch It On TV or Skip It. Want to find out who the pansy is, you’ll have to listen for yourself.

What If?
1: If you could be invisible for a day what would you do and why?
2. What if you saw someone that you really, truly hated get murdered? What would you do?

We have two movie tickets that we’ll give away to a random participant in our next show on Wednesday, November 28. You have 1 of 3 ways to enter this random drawing. The requirement is your feedback on the what if questions and/or the show topic. Here’s how to enter:

008 Girls Night In: Playing by Heart Movie Review

09/20/2007

Movie Review
Tonight we discussed Jaime’s movie pick Playing by Heart staring, among other’s; Sean Connery, Angelina Joile, and Gillian Anderson. “It is a character-driven drama about the sometimes funny, sometimes painful and always complex ways love can touch your life. Set in Los Angeles, the film weaves in and out of the lives of a group of eleven people of varied generations and lifestyles, all of whom are experiencing love in one of its many maddening stages. Some people are finding it. Others are losing it. What they have in common is an intense desire to express how love makes them feel.” We had a spirited discussion and one of our most. . . interesting ones. We also, once again rated it using our Buy It, Rent It, Catch It On TV or Skip It.

Want to hear this interesting discussion, bitches? You’ll have to listen for yourself.

What If?
1: If money were not an object, and you HAD to choose to pursue a profession you are not already in, what would you choose?
2. If your current spouse (if you have one) did not exist AND you HAD to choose to be in a relationship with a celebrity, who would it be?
We had lots of great listener feedback on this one, but you don’t want to be left out, do you?

What’s Coming Up?
Wait, we have a special announcement! This just in!!!
On our next episode we are starting a contest. The rules are pretty simple, you need to show up to the live show or call in some feedback and you will automatically be entered into a drawing for the grand prize. It is, unfortunately only open to US residents as the shipping is beyond our means at this point. One grand prize winner, to be selected at random from eligible entries will win… A trip for two to…. YOUR COUCH! We will be giving away a gift card valid for a movie rental, two sodas, two boxes of candy, and popcorn for you and a lovely guest.

Our next episode will be October 3 at 9PM EDT, 8PM CDT, 6PM PDT, 4PM Hawaii time. We will be discussing Jaime’s topic of choice, mood extremes.
